Dough Bakery {Sweet of the Week}

Meet Kevin, Laura, and Simon: the best and the brightest of Atlanta’s vegan bakers, and their love child: Dough Bakery and Deli. These culinary folks are taking “vegan” to new heights!

There isn’t much this cozy bakery/deli/cafe can’t offer you. Feast yourself on delicious sweets, breads, coffee, sandwiches, salads, all vegan “meats” and feel good about it because most of it is organic and all of it is completely vegan.

For those who are not familiar with “vegan” here is your generic definition:

ve·gan [vee-guhn]noun a vegetarian who omits all animal products from the diet. {or according to urban dictionary: someone who slaughters and kills fruits, and vegetables. “The poor carrot had no chance.”}

So, in other words: no meats, no eggs, no milk….It’s no simple task, but the folks at Dough make it look easy, if not preferable!

THE GOODS: I had a delightful sampling of their Banana Cake with Peanut Butter frosting, Black Bottom Macaroons, and my personal favorite, the PUMPKIN WHOOPIE PIE (warning: you will scream and giggle like a little kid).

THE SPOT: Dough Bakery is tucked over by the tracks on Dekalb, so slow the heck down and stop here!

THE SCOOP: Vegan. Organic. Local. As stated, Dough is an all vegan bakery and deli. Everything from soft serve to muffins to “chicken salad” (which is delicious!) Their sugar and flour is always organic and all other ingredients are organic whenever possible. Their coffee is the free trade Cafe Campesino, roasted here in Georgia. Their baked goods are moist, flavorful, and creative. These people are pros.

FACT MORSEL: Dough is only about 8 weeks old, but they have already started some savory traditions: Biscuit Sundays starting at 8am, build your own biscuit ’til they run out! They also sell all of their day old loaves of bread for $1.75! I tried their cinnamon raisin and it made for some amazing morning toast.
